Some of the most commonly seen types of kitchen countertops include laminate, granite, Caesar stone, corian and marble. Each one has its advantages and most don’t have any disadvantages, so it does generally come down to budget and taste. Laminate countertops are available in a huge number of colours and designs and these are the most common type chosen for kitchen benches. They have excellent properties such as stain resistance, heat resistance and even fire resistance, which is why laminate is commonly used. It is a very durable material for a countertop surface and will withstand the wear and tear of modern family life in the kitchen.
Granite countertops are also highly popular and for good reason. They are very aesthetically pleasing as well as being durable and long lasting. Because granite is a natural stone it provides an excellent touch to any kitchen, particularly when contrasted with timber cabinetry, although it goes well with any style of kitchen as it granite bench tops are available in a large selection of colours and natural patterns and no two granite bench tops will ever look exactly alike, thanks to the random natural events that have shaped these amazing rocks.
Another increasingly popular material for kitchen countertops is Caesar stone which is particularly desired in luxury and contemporary style kitchens. It is made of quartz and polymer resins. Quartz is used as it is one of the toughest minerals and is virtually scratch resistant, providing a very durable and long lasting countertop. It is not porous either which means dampness and rot will not occur, and it also remains clean and is not prone to bacterial build up.
Corian is another durable bench top option. It is available in a huge number of colours and patterns as well and with various finishes to select from, including satin, high gloss, semi gloss and matte. Corian is a balance between value for money and quality. Although it is not as durable as caeser stone or granite, it does allow the finish to be easily restored if damage or markings occur, and because of the vast number of designs and colours available, can be made to suit virtually any kitchen style.
Marble is of course another highly desired bench top natural. Another natural stone, it suits modern and luxury kitchens and has a price tag to boot. But people wanting the ultimate natural luxurious look should not go past marble countertops. Another alternative are composite stone countertops which feature a variety of stones, glass, resin and various pigments, resulting in a unique surface that combines the benefits of many different materials.
These are the main choices when it comes to benchtops in the kitchen. All kitchen countertops should be installed by qualified professionals so that you can be confident that it will be done right the first time, and that the countertop will be installed to a standard that ensures it lasts for an exceptionally long time.
